Shot entirely on a low-quality cell phone with a maximum of 17 seconds per shot, this piece investigates the importance of play, while examining the social expectations of gender. There is a performative interaction between a young boy princess and their nanny/manny. For both, notions of consent and shame in roleplay are consistent interactions during Princess time. Additionally, by negotiating playtime and roleplay against the wishes of the parents, the power of gender constructs is challenged. The role of technology is another facet of the project, in that it is an accessible object, something that is freely visible and normalized as part of the documentation process, the camera itself is a natural factor of play.
